Dr Valerio Potì is Head of Economics, Finance & Entrepreneurship and Director of the MSc in Finance at Dublin City University, where he teaches financial engineering and risk management. After graduating from Bocconi University, he worked as a trader on the Milan equity option market. He was later head of a large financial engineering desk, structuring financial products for retail customers and institutional investors. After gaining a PhD in finance at Trinity College Dublin, he began teaching courses in derivatives and financial engineering. His research expertise includes models of financial volatility, pricing and valuation, and equity trading strategies. His consulting activities include advising banks on risk and capital management, and on value creation policies that link incentives to performance.

Moderator: Professor Alberto Ribera lectures on managing people in organizations at the IESE business school in Barcelona. He has held educational and managerial positions in international organizations such as the World Health Organization; the Euro Arab Management School (a joint venture between the EU and the Arab League), where he was Director General; the Asian Development Bank Institute; and the European Commission. He was involved in the setting up of a business school in Shanghai. The author / co-author of six books, his primary degrees were in economics and medicine.

Moderator: Dr Tommaso Ramus is a researcher at IESE Business School in Barcelona. The Financial Times’ annual global ranking put IESE in the Number 1 position worldwide for executive education (May 2012) and in the Number 7 position worldwide for fulltime MBA programmes (January 2013). Dr Ramus gained his PhD on marketing and strategy at the University of Bergamo, has a Masters in management and business administration from the University of Trent, and has a particular interest in social entrepreneurship.
Case study: Homeless World Cup: social entrepreneurship, cause marketing, and a partnership with Nike
This case (Stanford University, E376, published June 2010) follows Mel Young, founder and president of Homeless World Cup, a non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate homelessness around the world. Homeless World Cup organizes annual football tournaments in host cities and, through its grassroots partner organizations, recruits and trains homeless people to play in the events. The case highlights the early days of founding and building the organization, including Young’s inspiration for the idea, and also covers the importance of branding and marketing, and the organization’s relationship with Nike.
