The cultural contribution of Irish Monks to European heritage

November 2012

Irish monks rendered a great service to European history and culture in general with their work, standing up as the true actors of the European medieval culture. They brought also to Europe perennial values, Christian hope and an Irish style of Christianity. Their monasteries became the storehouse of the past and the birthplace of the future (Card. H. Newman).

Enzo Farinella, journalist, ANSA (Italian News Agency) bureau chief, Vatican Radio correspondent, frequent collaborator of “Buongiorno Europa” and of other Italian, Irish, European, South American magazins and newspapers, was born in Gangi (Sicily) and he has been living in Ireland for over 40 years. He graduated in the Universities of Madrid, Alcala de Henares, Genoa and Naples.
